Emoji etiquette in the workplace
Here is a guide to how emojis are used and interpreted in the workplace.
The popular ones are ‘thumbs up’, followed by the ‘OK’, ‘starry eyes’, ‘smiley face’ and ‘raised hands’.
The best for giving a compliment are the ‘party popper’ emoji, followed by ‘raised hands’, ‘bicep’, ‘thumbs up’, ‘clap’ and the ‘star’.
The ones to avoid are the ‘kissing mark’, ‘two people kissing’, ‘heart eyes’, the ‘asleep’ emoji (38%) and ‘rolling eyes’.
So, if you’re going to use emojis, it’s the opposite of the old ‘caveat emptor’ term (ie: ‘let the buyer beware’). In this case it’s let the seller (or sender) beware!
