3 Myths about email: Myth # 3
Myth # 3: Email is a time-wasting distraction from ‘real’ work.
A tiny proportion of email sent and received at work is non-work critical.
Research by the Kingston Business School shows that people use email to help them get their jobs done more efficiently, with most people reporting that email is now an essential work tool for them. Very few people engage in non-work critical email during their working day. In fact, it is the least of 17 common email frustrations from client surveys collected since 2006.
With a few exceptions, email is now embedded into people’s daily work activities, and email users report that they would struggle to get their work done effectively without it.
